Serena Williams back on track after beating Pironkova

After suffering her second defeat of the year, number one Tennis champion of the world Serena Williams made a powerful comeback on Wednesday, when she defeated Tsvetana Pironkova in her first match of the Western and Southern Open. Williams developed the courage to withstand the pressure put on by a powerful Pironkova after her losses.

The match was certainly not a walk in the park for either player, who were both in for the straight win. However, the game ended after an hour and a half on court, with a final score of 7-5, 6-3. It is believed that the breaks may have been a strong influence in this game, as Williams dominated with a perfect two for two while Pironkova snapped a zero out of three. Williams did not have seem daunted in her gameplay despite the pressure of the match.  

Williams admitted that she isn’t OK with playing poorly in front of a great crowd; she was confident in that she would come back from her defeat with determination and confidence. At the end of the game, there were certainly some positive highlights to look back on and strategies to study for the next head-to-head. Viewers who watch the number one seed in action will realize that her strong will-power and focus are key factors in her constant victory.  

With game stats of 44-2, Williams geared up to take on another sporting sensation on Thursday. Williams beat out Italy’s Karin Knapp with a 6-0 6-2 win. Though Williams knows her gaming ability, she still focuses on keeping strong and improving her performance. Her self-assessment shows that she knows she isn’t perfect, but clearly knows what to do to get better with each round.
